Dane Construction, S.T. Wooten win bridge replacement contracts
The North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded a $2 million contract to Dane Construction Inc. of Mooresville to replace two bridges over Black Creek north of Benson in Johnston County. The contract includes plans to replace the bridge on Federal Road over Black Creek east of I-40 and the bridge on N.C. 50 over Black Creek west of I-40, NCDOT said in a news release issued Tuesday. Appeals court rules in favor of D.R. Horton in Clayton land sale case
A lower court erred in a $451,000 judgment against a builder that backed out of an agreement to purchase 273 home lots east of Clayton, and therefore must reconsider the case in light of additional evidence, the North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday. The national homebuilder D. R. Horton (NYSE: DHI) agreed in May 2006 to buy the lots over the course of four years, but backed out in 2007 after the seller, 42 East LLC, allegedly failed to remove certain easements from the lots. IBM Corp. rated a “buy” by Sterne Agee
IBM Corp. is positioned to post double-digit growth in its earnings per share, according to a new research report issued by Sterne Agee, which initiated coverage on IBM with a “buy” rating on Tuesday. Sterne Agee set a price target of $230 on IBM (NYSE: IBM), which employs around 10,000 workers in the Triangle. IBM posted EPS of $13.36 in 2011. Small businesses find a cash register in iPads, smartphones
A new way to swipe credit cards seems to be catching on in the Triangle with more than 1,500 users having adopted a system that plugs into an Apple iPad, iPhone or smartphones that use Google’s Android operating system. The small square device is aptly named Square. In the past, some small business owners have opted not to accept credit/debit cards for various financial reasons, says Lindsay Wiese, a spokeswoman for Square. Durham housing development sold for $8.5M
A Charlotte real estate firm wants to jumpstart home sales at the 684-acre Brightleaf at the Park community in Durham that was taken over by SunTrust Bank in 2011. Mountain Real Estate Capital of Charlotte paid $8.5 million to a subsidiary of SunTrust in late December for the remaining undeveloped lots and land in Brightleaf.
